National Academic League
Congratulations to the St. John Neumann Panthers and Coaches Torrie Martinez and Isabella Martinez for another impressive team performance!
Students from 6th through 8th grade may compete in National Academic League, which is a knowledge based activity where middle school students from around the city of Pueblo compete in trivia setting. Matches are set to four quarters, and each has a different set of rules. Students must prepare and answer questions for points. In the third quarter, students are given a social justice topic on which they must give a presentation. Students get to show off their knowledge at these matches!
Mrs. Trujillo-Santistevan and Mrs. Trujillo have led the Panther NAL team to first place finishes in the city of Pueblo, then on to national competitions. In 2019, the Panthers finished 8th in the United States! Go Panthers!
The NAL season runs from November to mid-February. Matches in Pueblo are played at Central High School on Tuesdays after school.
Brain Bowl
The Optimist Brain Bowl is an academic competition open to Colorado/Wyoming middle school students in 6th, 7th and 8th grades. Students form teams and demonstrate their knowledge of a variety of subjects in a format modeled after the GE College Bowl television program that ran from 1959-1970. All Colorado/Wyoming public, private and home-schooled 6th, 7th and 8th grade students are invited to form teams and participate. St. John Neumann Panthers participate in the Southern Colorado Region competition. The competition is held in February in Colorado Springs. Students are encouraged to participate in the local and regional contest which may include writing, oratorical, art, etc.Leadership+

Basketball
Father Powers Basketball League
The Father John Powers Memorial Basketball League is for Catholics churches and Catholic schools in Pueblo. The league is for youths ranging from grade 2nd to 8th grade and for boys and girls. The games are played on Sunday afternoons at a local middle school and the season starts at the beginning of November thru the middle of December. Before each game participants say the Hail Mary prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. Good sportsmanship is promoted from the players, coaches and parents. High School referees are used for each game. All children get playing time in the game.
St. John Neumann students are also encouraged to make a team and play at the YMCA.
